In early 1992, a group of Scotch whisky experts gathered at Riedel's headquarters in Austria to experiment with nineteen different glass shapes. Georg Riedel then conducted additional research with the assistance of master distillers in Scotland. This study led to the creation of a glass with an elongated thistle shape and a truncated stem. The design features a small lip that curves outward, guiding the spirit to the tip of the tongue where sweetness is most pronounced. It also serves to enhance the luxurious creaminess of high-quality single malt whisky.
